TICK OUTSIDE THE CLOCK – WHEN WAITING BECOMES A CRUTCH
“And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.” John 5:5–8 (KJV)
🔍 #REFLECTION
Good morning, beloved!
Sometimes, we don't realize how long we've been lying beside our breakthrough, paralyzed by the WAIT. The man at the pool of Bethesda had been sick for 38 years using wait as his crutch. His condition became his identity, WAITING became his CRUTCH and excuses his comfort zone.. Instead of rising in faith, he rehearsed reasons—no man to help, no one to lift him in time. Like him, many of us allow delay to become our doctrine and disappointment to become our worldview. Where have you made waiting your hiding place?
SPIRITUALLY: Waiting becomes idolatry when we trust rituals (like the stirred pool) more than God’s voice. Jesus bypassed the man’s dependency on conditions, proving obedience—not circumstances—unlocks miracles. prolonged waiting can dilute expectation and blur the voice of God.
EMOTIONALLY: Passive waiting feeds victimhood ("I have no one..."). It’s a safety net against risk, but it steals dignity. Christ’s command forced the man to confront his fear of failure. it breeds frustration, low self-worth, and resignation.
MENTALLY: "I’ll move when..." is a lie that paralyzes. The man rehearsed excuses until they became his reality. Jesus interrupted this toxic thought cycle with a call to immediate action. it builds limiting beliefs—convincing us that movement is only possible under certain conditions.
Sometimes, breakthrough comes not when conditions are perfect but when we obey divine instruction. Wait on God not for perfect condition.
❓ #REFLECTION_QUESTIONS
1. What areas of your life have you allowed waiting to become a way of life instead of a season?
2. Have you substituted faith with excuses that sound rational but contradict God's power?
3. What bed are you still lying on that Jesus is calling you to rise from?
💎 #FAITH_AFFIRMATIONS
1. I rise above delays and move with God’s command.
2. I am not a prisoner of time; I am a vessel of divine timing.
3. My faith is stronger than my fears.
4. I break every mental agreement with stagnation.
✅ #ACTION_PLANS
1. Identify one “bed” of comfort, delay, or excuse you’ve been lying on—and take practical steps to “rise” from it this week.
2. Declare John 5:8 every morning for the next 7 days.
3. Write down what you’re still waiting on and ask the Holy Spirit for what action He wants you to take today.
🙏 #PRAYER
Lord, I confess that I’ve allowed delays to shape my decisions. I break every mindset that exalts waiting over obedience. Speak to me clearly, and help me rise with faith. Deliver me from every comfort that has become a crutch. I choose to move with Your word, not just wait for a sign. In Jesus’ name, amen.
👣 #FOOTPRINTS (Quotable Quotes)
1. But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; - Bible. Isaiah 40:31
2. "Don’t just wake up, rise up—purpose is waiting." — T.D. Jakes
3. "Wait on God not for perfect conditions." — Anietie Umoete
🧭 #FINAL_THOUGHT
Waiting is faith only when God initiates it. When you use it to avoid risk, it becomes rebellion. Jesus didn’t ask about the man’s 38 years—He demanded present-tense obedience. Your breakthrough isn’t in the next stirred pool. It’s in the courage to rise while others wait.
